Brand new taste of Ceredigion

CEREDIGION AM Elin Jones AM recently visited Llaethliw, a new wine producer based at Neuaddlwyd, near Aberaeron, and sampled the “high-quality wines” on offer. Richard and Siwsan Evans bought Llaethliw in 2008, and planted their first 6,500 vines a year later. They hope a further 10,000 vines will be planted over the next few years. 2014 is the first year that Llaethliw wine has been produced, with the vineyard offering white, red and rose varieties. Four grape varieties are grown on the hillside at Neuaddlwyd – Solaris, Orion, Rondo and Regent. Ms Jones, who toured the vineyard with Mrs Evans and her son Jac, said: “It’s great to see a local Ceredigion family diversifying their business and investing in a distinctive and high-quality product. “I was delighted to share the owners’ joy in seeing the first Llaethliw vintage come to fruition. I’m sure that 2014 will be the first of many great years of Ceredigion wine from the Aeron valley. “Recently, great strides have been made to market our local produce. Farmers’ markets have grown and won awards, the Ceredigion Taste Trail is up and running and new ini- FIRST BOTTLES. tiatives like the ‘Food Passport’ continue to be launched. “Llaethliw wine is already available online and will I’m sure be stocked in more and more shops in Ceredigion and beyond.”
