The FUW have appointed Simon Longworth (pictured right), as Finance Director of FUW Ltd and FUW Insurance Services Ltd.
A Lancashire man, married to a Welsh girl and with an energetic six-year old son, Simon has lived overlooking the Dyfi estuary since 2005 while practising as a chartered accountant and consultant with businesses in Ceredigion and Meirionydd. Although not a farmer, he grew up amongst the dairy farms of the Fylde and has always had farming friends, his brother married the daughter of a vice president of the hereford Association of Argentina.
The family of his youth always loved the outdoors, from camping in the woods to climbing high mountains; and he hasn’t stopped. From an early age he marvelled at God’s creation and saw him in it and his growing interest in natural history led him to study Physical Geography at Manchester University before teaching that subject for five years at Rugby School in Warwickshire.
One thing that has always struck Simon is just how much of the landscapes and nature he loves are under the management and husbandry of farmers and their families.
Simon said: “I have always thought that farmers are underappreciated by the nation they feed. The Bible says the hard-working farmer should have the first share of the produce, and I intend to do all I can to help promote farmers’ value and help them in their endeavours to secure a fair deal for their farms and families.”
“It is a privilege for me to serve the members and officers of the FUW as they strive to achieve the founders’ objectives and new aims of their own. I look forward to meeting many more of you over the coming months.”
