LOVE Lamb Week is back for 2 0 2 0 and
ran from 1 ‐7 September this year.
Love Lamb Week is a week‐long celebration of
home‐produced lamb which see
farmers, retailers, consumers and the
whole industry come together to
celebrate fresh, sustainable lamb. Consumer data
from Kantar Worldpanel showed that earlier in the summer there was an increased demand for fresh lamb
from GB consumers. The data also suggested that this rise was most likely from new consumers purchasing lamb or consumers returning to buying lamb.
This is obviously very heartening news and shows how lockdown has impacted on people’s shopping and cooking habits. We fully intend to build on this momentum over the coming months and exploit key lockdown trends such as more cooking from scratch and utilising leftovers in our campaign efforts.
At Hybu Cig Cymru, we of course lead the Love Lamb Week celebrations. Our work largely concentrated on engaging with consumers through supermarkets and retailers. As part of our UK market development strategy, we engage with all of the supermarkets ‐ however for Love Lamb Week we have got special September promotions with Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose where we have special PGI Welsh
Lamb recipe cards in store amongst other activities and promotions.
We are also supporting independent retailers during this time; our Welsh Lamb and Beef Butchers Club members have also received promotional packs containing special recipe cards, social media guides and other materials to help them celebrate Love Lamb Week and promote Welsh red meat.
This work is also being reinforced by our digital consumer campaign which will this month see us take over Delicious magazine’s website and the BBC Good Food website ‐ two of the most popular and trusted recipe and food websites in the UK. We also had key ‘foodie’ influencers sharing PGI Welsh Lamb recipes throughout Love Lamb Week and throughout September to their followers to reach new audiences.
