Rachel Saunders – County Executive Officer
How long with Union? 7 years (minus 2 maternity leaves!)
Solicitor specialising in Mental health Law and Private Client; Law in Cardiff University; I went to Cowbridge Comprehensive School and Sixth Form
Home life (married/single etc.)? Married to a farmer Rob, we have two children, harrison and Sienna
Hobbies/other activities outside work?
Socialising with my friends (when I get time off from keeping two small children alive!)
What does your job entail? Assisting our members with a lot of red tape, advising and assisting with farming subsidy applications, organising events and visits that will benefit our members
Most unusual request? helping a member
to issue an abandonment notice for vehicles left on their farm
What do you enjoy doing most?
helping our members and resolving issues for them – seeing our members at social events such as agricultural shows or charity events
What’s the most important part of your job? Please see
last answer – it is important for farmers to have someone that they can turn to and ask questions if they do not
understand something or they need help
What would you change to make your job even
better? Nothing really, although I would like a bigger budget to
organise more events
Typical day? Most days are different, never have two days the same but it ranges from checking and responding to e-mails, attending meetings with local authorities and other public bodies, organising and attending agricultural shows, attending members on their farms, meeting with politicians, going to staff training, going to market etc.

Left school in 1973 with 5 “O” levels. history “A” Level in 2004, went to
evening classes in Bridgend College with my daughter for this.
Started work in 1973 with Glamorgan County Council as admin officer. Left in 1987 to have daughter. Started work as a Library Assistant with Rhondda Cynon Taff Council in 1994 and joined Union in 2003
