TWO new members have joined the FUW policy team. Ceri Davies has been appointed Policy Officer and Gareth Parry as a Policy Communications Officer.
Ceri is specialising in dairy and agri-pollution. She lives with her partner on his family’s beef and sheep farm near Ffarmers, Pumsaint. Originally from a family background in horses, Ceri developed a great interest in the dairy sector and animal disease science whilst studying Bioveterinary Science at Harper Adams University, before completing her degree at IBeRS, Aberystwyth University.
After a summer placement with the Wynnstay Calf and Youngstock Team, Ceri decided working to help farmers in the dairy sector was the career she wanted. After winning the RABDF ‘Farm Health Planning Award’ at Dairy Tech 2019, for work based on the control of infectious diseases
by health planning. “I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping the FUW help our family farmers,” she said.
Gareth’s role is to ensure that FUW policy communications reach all the right people in the right way. From a family farming background at Tywyn and Bala, they currently operate a smallholding and agricultural contracting business from Llanfarian, Ceredigion.
Gareth went to Penglais School in Aberystwyth, and then went on to complete a 2-year extended Diploma in Agriculture at Llysfasi College, Ruthin. This led to an unconditional offer to study Agriculture and Business at Aberystwyth University. “Following my 3-year University course in Aberystwyth, I will be graduating this month, I’m really looking forward to working within the Union and Policy Team by making sure key Policy details and updates are forwarded to the right people,” he said.
