THE annual Montgomery YFC Field Day was held on September 23 at Efail Wag, Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant by kind permission of Rees and Sally Roberts and family.
The Field Day was very well supported with over 200 in attendance. The event was very kindly sponsored by Pickstock Telford Ltd, Greg Pickstock and his family attended the event and thoroughly enjoyed seeing what the Field Day had to offer.
Being a past member of Vyrnwy Valley YFC Greg has always been very passionate about supporting the future farming generations at events such as the Field Day. Mr Pickstock said: “It’s great to see so many young people come together and build on their agricultural skills, the atmosphere at these events are second to none and I look forward to seeing many of these future farmers thrive through the YFC movement”.
The Dairy, Beef and Pig stock judging competition evenings took place in the week prior to the Field Day;
Dairy was held at
Priddbwll Mawr Llangedwyn by kind permission of the Evans Family, Beef was held at Frongoch, Llanrhaeadr by kind permission of the Evans Family and Pig judging was held at Tir Du, Dolanog by kind permission of the Oliver and family.
Thanks to all the hosting families for their time and support. The lamb and carcass judging took place at the Field Day on Saturday in amongst the other activities of the day.
Congratulations to Michael Savage, Dyffryn Tanat for winning the Junior Stockman of the Year and Tom Morris, Berriew for winning the Senior Stockman of the Year; both will be going forward to represent Montgomeryshire at the Wales Field Day, which will be held in Carmarthenshire on April 21.
On the day a number of agricultural competitions including Workshop Skills and ATV Challenge were held at Efail Wag. Llanfyllin YFC won first place for the team
fencing competition and
Aberhafesp won the junior fencing shield.
For the Animal Knowledge competition members had to correctly name the cuts of meat, the animal feed and the cattle breeds, thank you to FUW Montgomery chairman Aled Roberts for judging this competition.
Members of Dyffryn
Tanat were awarded first place for the Animal Knowledge and Efficiency with Safety competition, Dafydd Edwards and Sion Jones, Dyffryn Tanat won the Fferm Ffactor. Taylor Jones, Tregynon and David Jerman Llidiartywaen were both first in their respective Lamb Trimming competitions.
The craft and stage competitions consist of a variety of challenges including wreath making, cookery, jump rope and making a Christmas decoration.
YFC Live was judged by our very own Life Members, Llanfyllin were awarded first place for their very comical magic show, the trio will be going on to represent Montgomeryshire at the Wales Field Day in April.
Congratulations to Sioned Morris, Dyffryn Tanat for winning the ‘Decorate a Christmas Wreath’ competition, Martha Humpherys, Abermule for winning the Christmas Tree Decoration and Bro Ddyfi for winning the Cookery competition.
