School children welcome farming into the ‘classroom’

FUW President Glyn Roberts took time out from his farm in Betws y Coed and union matters to join in the promotion of farming at a Wrexham primary school in mid May.

Glyn met up with youngsters at Ysgol Plas Coch and Rheinallt Hughes, chairman of the FUW hill and marginal land committee and his daughter Caryl who gave a demonstration, and explained the need for sheep shearing.

“It’s really important that our children understand the connection between farming and food, and this event gave us an opportunity to do. Hopefully the day the farm came to school will be something they remember for a long time,” said Glyn.

The FUW was one of a number of agricultural organisations taking part in the Cows on Tour initiative.
