Triple win for Wales at Entertainments Competition

A moving celebration of our coal heritage from Llanfyllin YFC in montgomery has won the 2017 national Final of the Entertainments Competition, the FUW sponsored the montgomeryshire YFC February entertainment festival. A major part of their production, Forever mine, paid tribute to the people who died in the Aberfan disaster in 1966. Club chairman Huw Jones said: “This goes out to everyone who lost their lives at Aberfan. it has been hard work. We’ve been practising twice a week since January.” Although the tribute to Aberfan

was very moving, Forever mine was about the place the whole coal industry has and had in the culture of mining communities and the team was able to weave in humour and fun elements too – including a Full monty scene and Huw’s max Boyce skit! “The cast have been brilliant, as has everyone who has supported us to get us down to Torquay. it’s an amazing feeling that i will never have again.” Second place went to Cornwall FYFC for How Pink is Your Panther and third place went to Cheriton and Tedburn YFC from Devon YFC for Play That Country Song. Tregynon YFC were celebrating after coming first in the street dance competition and Knighton YFC are cheerleading champions. The Best Female Actor award went to megan gibson from Raughton Head YFC in Cumbria.

She said: “it was a massive team effort. The parents, the seniors, the juniors – every single part of the club is a part of our entertainments. That’s why it means so much to us today to be stood here receiving awards like this, being in the top five in the country.” The Best male Actor award went to Ashley Richard from Cornwall FYFC. He said: “i’m absolutely delighted. it means the world. Words can’t really describe what it means to a young farmer. it’s priceless.”
