UK environment, food and rural affairs secretary Elizabeth Truss visited Brecknock YFC’s office last month and said she wanted to see a “proper focus on rural issues” – especially among young people.
She met members from different clubs within the county and heard stories of how the YFC have helped them to develop and the opportunities that have been made available to them.
Kayleigh Rees-Jones explained how YFC had helped her gain the confidence to start her own printing and embroidery business, Designs4Ewe, which she has now sold on. She spoke of how Wales YFC had helped her apply for a business grant and supported her in developing a business plan.
Sioned Davies, chairman of the Youth Forum and a member of Pontfaen YFC, stressed how important it was to include agriculture on the school curriculum and how this was essential to give people the skills and knowledge they need in starting out which would be good for the future of farming.
The secretary of state was accompanied on her visit by Chris Davies, the Conservative Parliamentary kcandidate for Breconshire & Radnorshire.
